[regarding a release of a
DVD....]
"We’re working on that now. Our management and us are kind of getting people to send in old videos — well anything really that is significant that we might be able to use. We want to release it in time for Christmas of this year." If you showed up to their gigs back in the day and happened to videotape or record the performance now is the time for you to claim your fame. "We obviously have our own footage. We just want to see what we can get from people out there. There might be some really cool stuff. Generally, we’re looking for some stuff from ‘93, ‘94 and ’95. When we toured with Sepultura, Obituary or in Europe." With those specifics in place the following example Herrera provides is what they DON’T want, "There have been a lot of kids that come out and say ‘Hey, I’ll film the show tonight and then send it to ya.’ It’s like, ‘No.’ We want older stuff. We want stuff from a fan perspective." This has many people believing that it’s fine to show up at a venue with a video camera or DAT recorder and bootleg their gigs. Fear Factory IS NOT the Grateful Dead and Herrera explains why, "We had one kid who had 50 or 60 recordings from ’93, ’94, ’95 that he bought from somebody else. Basically it was kids that recorded the shows. We try not to let people film." And the reason for that is, "They just turn around and sell it. We try to stop it to a certain point." [Editor’s Note: Trading is way cooler.] With almost 10 years under their belt, the DVD should be the definite history of Fear Factory and it vibes perfectly with their technological outlook. "We’ve always talked about doing a home video, but we never came around to doing it. Now with DVD it’s the time to do it. We want to make it special. I think it’s been long enough. We’ve been talking about it for years and finally we should just do it. We got the clearance from Roadrunner Records and I think it’ll work out fine." Herrera has also been talking for at least the last two years about creating a video game around the band’s image. With his contacts in that industry this could be the next thing we see from them. "We talked to Psygnosis in the past about doing a Fear Factory video game, but they got bought out by Sony. So they’re stuck doing their stuff. It’s something that I want to pursue. I think a Fear Factory video game would be the bomb. We’ll see what happens. It’s something that I want to do and my friends that make games are very interested too. Eventually someone will get it." |
